Family Culture with Beth Hoff

Jul 15, 2020

Welcome back to the Family Culture podcast, Episode 3! Today I’m introducing a segment of the podcast called “Momversations” that’s meant to be an authentic, raw conversation about being a mom and walking through some of the unique challenges we face.

I love being a mom. And it’s also hands down the hardest thing I have EVER done in my entire life.

But on this beautiful and crazy journey of motherhood, there are all these thoughts…these lies...about what being a great mom really means that often hold us back from experiencing the daily joy and simple wonder of being a mom and connecting with our kids.

So I want to take a few minutes today to talk about these lies we moms find ourselves buying into and the truth that will set us free.

Lie #1: You can't be a great mom because you weren't raised by one

Lie #2: The quality of the connection with your child is measured by the amount of time you spend with them.

Lie #3: You have to enjoy every minute or you're doing it wrong

Lie #4: Your child's happiness is your responsibility.

Lie #5: Other moms are doing it better.

Lie #6: Your needs are not important.

Lie #7: You have to be perfect or you'll mess up your kids.

Which of these lies do you struggle with the most? I want to encourage you to take a minute to bring it before God and share your heart with him. Then ask him to show you HIS truth about who you are as a mom.

You don't have to be perfect. And your kids don’t expect you to. They just want you.

Instead of letting these lies steal the joy of motherhood from you, embrace the ups and downs and know that you ARE an amazing mom. And the more you choose to believe that, the better you'll be.

Thanks so much for tuning in to the Family Culture podcast today! If you enjoyed what you heard, I would LOVE for you to subscribe AND leave a review! This is honestly one of the best ways to help me spread the word so that more moms just like you can find helpful tools and life-giving encouragement on their journey.
